Get to know the Patients’ University

The Patients’ University is a specific university for patients, families, carers, volunteers and the general public who are interested in heath and healthcare.

The Patients’ University aims to guarantee equality of opportunity in education and access to quality healthcare for patients and users of healthcare services.

The general aim of the Patients’ University is to promote the modernisation and improve the quality of health care through information, training and research activities.

Why create a Patients’ University?

  • Because we want to be able to meet existing demands for information and knowledge about health and illness management by patients, family members and carers.
  • Because there is a new patient model with a greater level of involvement in the strategies of responsibility and facing up to the illness.
  • Because in recent years the social concepts and values of health, wellbeing and quality of life for patients and the population at large have been reinforced.
  • Because the health education of patients contributes to improvement in the quality of the health system.
  • Because the university is a social place for the generation and sharing of knowledge.
  • Because patients can always help other patients.

Aims

  • To become a reference point for accreditation and activities for patients.
  • To promote the democratisation of knowledge and the defence of patient rights.
  • To return to society its investment in the university by acting in a socially responsible manner.
  • To design activities that respond to patients’ needs.
